  • Background
    • Background

Thrombospondin-1 (TSP1), encoded by THBS1, is a multifunctional extracellular matrix glycoprotein involved in cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions. It regulates angiogenesis, cell adhesion, migration, apoptosis, and tissue remodeling. TSP1 is a major endogenous activator of latent TGF-β and plays important roles in fibrosis, wound healing, inflammation, and tumor progression. Dysregulated TSP1 expression has been associated with cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and cancer, making it an important target in cell biology and disease-related research.
