Background
Human Adenoviruses (HAdV) are non-enveloped DNA viruses in the Mastadenovirus genus. They typically cause respiratory diseases but can also lead to gastrointestinal issues, conjunctivitis, and cystitis. In immunocompromised individuals, severe symptoms such as respiratory failure and neurological disease may occur, even leading to death. The hexon protein, a major component of the virus capsid, plays a crucial role. With an approximate size of 100 kDa, hexon consists of a pedestal region and three loops projecting from the virion's surface. Hexon proteins easily form trimers and further self-assemble into capsomeres, creating a capsid structure with 240 hexons.
