Fruit bats of the genus Pteropus serve as the primary natural host of the virus. The clinical presentation of Nipah virus infection range from asymptomatic cases to severe respiratory and neurological manifestations, including fatal encephalitis. Due to its high mortality rate and potential for localized outbreaks, early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for outbreak control.
